One Night in Brazil
Nanisi Barrett DâArnuk
Nanisi Barrett DâArnuk has written mysteries, romances, and erotica. Being of Aleut decent, she dreams of riding her Harley across Alaska and being five foot eleven.
Iâd been in Manaus less than a week. Next time Iâd have to plan more than two weeks if I was going to explore unknown-to-me regions of the world. Two weeks to explore Brazil and Argentina? What had I been thinking? Two weeks was far too short to even explore one of those countries. I had let my friend Andrea convince me it was all the time Iâd need. That was the last time Iâd listen to her. Brazil spoke to my soul. It reminded me of my grandmother. I didnât want to leave. Even a month wouldnât have been enough. This trip was semi-planned to include five days in Manaus, four more in the Pantanal, and four days in Buenos Aires.
My grandmother had talked to me about Brazil since I was little. It was where sheâd been born and had spent the first nineteen years of her life, until she fell in love with Grandpa. Heâd married her and moved her to the States, where sheâd spent the next sixty-three years of her life. When I had the chance to finally go on a vacation out of the country, Iâd chosen here. I wish Grandma was still around so I could share my adventures with her. She would have loved to talk to me about this.
This was the fourth day in Manaus and the fourth day Iâd had to look at our tour guide, Michaella.
My God, she was beautiful, in a very Brazilian way. She had long, curly black hair that fell around her mocha-colored shoulders below her beautiful, chiseled features that accented her beauty even further. Her tight jeans showed a length of leg that would make anyone drool, and her shirts bulged out just enough to show she had exquisite attributes. Iâd been ogling her for the past three days and fantasizing about her for the past three nights.
I sauntered down to the pool area of the hotel. My trip up the Amazon River didnât leave until two oâclock, so I still had a couple hours. Some friends Iâd met on this tour were already sitting at a table near the pool, having a light lunch.
âHey, Leah! Come join us,â Eunice called to me. She and her husband were making a trip sheâd planned as a fortieth anniversary celebration. Her husband Stan had just retired, so they were getting to do all the things they had talked about all their lives. I walked over and sat at the one empty chair at their table. Michaella, our delicious-looking tour guide, was there too.
âBoa tarde, Leah.â Michaella greeted me with one of the biggest smiles Iâd seen this week.
âMichaella was just telling us about this afternoonâs trip. She says that the water from the Amazon and the Rio Negro are different colors and donât mix for almost four miles.â
Michaella smiled.
